Grange Community College Juvenile Football Success

Grange Community Colleges U14 footballers started their league campaign with a tremendous twelve point win over neighbours Colaiste Dhulaigh at Coolock last Monday afternoon. The final score line of Grange CC (9: 8) - Colaiste Dhulaigh (7:2) reflects the very entertaining nature of a superb football match. Grange CC had many stand out performances all over the field of play, especially from Daniel Mulligan, Eoghan Cullen and Craig Bonney in defence, Michael Hagan at centre field and Cillian McAuley and Jamie Coyne in attack.

Corner forward Stephen Larmon opened Grange's CC scoring account with a well taken goal after three minutes. And with Hagan dominating around centre field, Grange CC led at the half way mark, (5:4) - (4:1). The highlights of the opening half included a collection of well taken goals from both sides, especially Grange's CC fifth goal, a booming 25 yard shot from Grange's centre field powerhouse Hagan, which found its way into the top right hand corner of helpless Colaiste Dhulaigh net.

Within the first twelve minutes of the half time interval Grange CC had stretched their lead further and registered two more goals and three points, the pick of these scores coming from an energetic Coyne who was a constant menace in the Grange CC attack. Colaiste Dhulaigh had their own excellent spell in the second period and tagged on a number of fine scores including three well taken goals and a point. However, Grange CC were not to be denied their victory and with Gavin Carroll orchestrating some lovely fine passing moves late on in the game and the full forward line of Coyne and McAuley capitalising and tagging on some well taken scores, Grange CC ran out worthy and well merited winners.

Team on the day: David Kiernan, Daniel Mulligan, Eoghan Cullen, Mark Walsh, Craig Bonney, Johnny O Keefe, Michael Hagan 3-1, Gavin Carroll 0-1, Stephen Larmon 1-0, Dylan Tuke, Cillian McAuley 1-2, Jamie Coyne 4-3, Vincent Healy 1-0 & Jason Quigley. Man of the Match, Michael Hagan.

Grange Community College Juvenile Footballers Top their Group

Grange Community Colleges U14 footballers finished off their group league campaign with a hard fought ten point win over neighbours PS Nesaisn at the Grange's home ground venue "Trinity Gaels GAA Club", last Friday afternoon. The final score line of Grange CC (9: 9) – PS Nesaisn (7:5) surpasses Grange's previous record scoring tally by one single point, as they emerge top of the group as winners and the reward of a quarter final home fixture.

Full forward Jamie Coyne opened Grange's CC' scoring account with a well taken point after one minute and within the quarter hour mark both sides had exchanged a couple of superb goals and points leaving the scores (1:4) to (1:2) in favour of Grange.

Star man Coyne and corner forward Cillian McAuley proved a handful for the PS Nasaisn defence, as both lads picked off some lovely scores supplied from Dylan Tuke, Stephen Larmon, Michael Hagan and Mattie Hewett who all worked hard during the first half hour. At the half-time interval Grange CC emerged ahead of PS Nasaisn, (3:5) to (2:4).

In the second period Grange CC came out wind assisted and within seven minutes of the restart cruised into a clear twelve point lead. With the introduction of the hugely influential Arthur Purcell and Vincent Healey, Grange seemed to be in a very strong position to run out easy winners. However, disaster struck in the tenth, eleventh and fourteenth minutes as PS Nasaisn scored three consecutive goals on the run and suddenly Grange CC came under serious pressure.

But tremendous credit must be given to the players of Grange CC because with only six minutes remaining the team put in an almighty finish, with team captain Craig Bonney, Tuke, Hagan, Coyne, Healy and McAuley all coming to the fore, Grange fought back with a vengeance and registered three consecutive late goals and three points, with no response coming from a shell shocked PS Nasaisn. The pick of the scores, a bullet of a goal from Grange's dynamo, Jamie Coyne.

Team on the day: David Kiernan, Daniel Mulligan, Eoghan Cullen, Dillion White, Craig Bonney, Johnny O Keefe, Michael Hagan 2-3, Matty Hewett 0-1, Gavin Carroll 0-1, Stephen Larmon, Dylan Tuke, Cillian McAuley 1-2, Jamie Coyne 4-2, Vincent Healy 1-1 Jason Quigley, Arthur Purcell 1-0, Andrew Khumalo, Aaron Teeling, Anthony Heavey, Andrew Kierran, Mark Walsh. Man of the Match, Jamie Coyne.

Grange Community College Soccer Sep – Dec 2010

September to December 2010 has been a relatively successful period on the soccer field for the school with both the under 16 team and the under 14 team qualifying from their groups.

Firstly the under-16 team got off to a great start in their group with a 5-2 victory over Colaiste Mhuire Cabra. A superb settling header from Captain Joseph Hagan was added to with a superb hat-trick by Austin Byrne, with Brendan O' Reilly also contributing with another goal. Great performances were also put in by Gary Connolly, Caimhin Cullen and Lee Moffatt.

After a walkover which put the under-16 team through they were forced to field the under-14 team for their final game against Gaelcolaiste Reachrann. Despite a spirited 2nd half performance by the young team they were eventually beaten 6-0.

The Under-14 team began their campaign with a 5-2 victory over Gaelcolaiste Reachrann Cillian McAuley, Arron Teeling and Stephen Larmon on the score sheet that day. This was followed by a convincing 6-2 victory over Colaiste Mhuire Cabra. Cillian McAuley scored a very good hat-trick that day, ably assisted with goals from Arron Teeling, Eoin Cullen and Gavin Carroll.

But performance of the Autumn came when a very confident Patrician College Finglas arrived to play Grange. With both sides through, Patrician decided to rest a few players. This proved a mistake as Grange raced into a well deserved 3-0 lead. Shocked, Patrician emptied their bench and to their credit they pulled the scoreline back to 3-3 at halftime. But a great response and a vital settling goal from Ainsley Cooney put Grange back into a 4-3 lead and from here they showed great character to run out deserved 10-5 victors with goals from Aaron Teeling (4), Cillian McAuley (2), Ainsley Cooney (2), Stephen Larmon and Gary Connolly, and also despite conceding 5 goals, a very good and accomplished performance from goal keeper Jamie Coyne. This result enabled Grange to top the group.

Mr Madden, Mr. Beere and Mr. Smyth although content to have qualified out of their respective groups realise that both teams will have to put in a massive effort if they are to bring silverware back to the school this year. Can either team do it??
