Webwise SID Ambassador for Grange Community College

Today was a momentous day for Grange Community College and for one of it’s students, Steven Dunne of fifth year. Steven and Patrick Bridgeman applied to become the school’s ambassadors for Internet Safety day held every year on 5th February. Steven was chosen to represent our school. Paddy will assist Steven, collaborating and constructing ideas with him so as to develop the campaign for a better ‘safer internet’ day.

Today Steven started his ‘Webwise Safer Internet Training Programme’ with webwise.

Who are webwise I hear you say?

“Webwise is the Irish Internet Safety Awareness Centre. We develop resources and run campaigns that promote a better internet. Jane, Tracey and Aideen make up the Webwise team and you’ll get to hear from/meet us at the webinar.

We also work with a Youth Panel to develop different campaigns. This Youth Panel is made up of around 30 teenagers from all over Ireland. It was their idea to have a Safer Internet Day (SID) Ambassadors Programme to help more people and schools get involved in tackling cyberbullying. Some of them will be involved in this programme.”

Steven has a very busy schedule ahead. Today Steven got to log on and join all of the ambassadors on a two hour webinar. He will now go away and brainstorm ideas with all of the SID Ambassadors. He will attend a SID Ambassadors training day out at Google Head Quarters, in the new year. He will lead a campaign raising the awareness about using the Internet safely. On February 5th Steven will hold an event in school. I’ve been told I can’t say anymore than this!

We wish Steven the best of luck. Please give Steven your best wishes and encouragement.

Congratulations and well done!
